Improve Security with CCTV Equipment

Posted by on June 30, 2009

Making your home or property secure and free from burglars is now made easy. The security CCTV cameras and equipment available today are the latest equipment that can drive burglars and intruders away. Have one now and improve the security of your home and family.

Use of CCTV Camera

The CCTV cameras and other security equipment were originally used in monitoring public places and commercial properties that need utmost security such as banks, pawnshops, and shopping centers. But now with the threats to security of a person or a property, the demand for security increases. The CCTV cameras and equipment are now being used as a solution.

Most of the people who use this security system are the individuals occupying high ranking in the government and society like politicians and even celebrities whose lives and properties need extreme security. Also, if you are living in a place that is frequently visited by unlawful elements such as robbers then you might need a CCTV camera for your home.

Setting up CCTV cameras with your security system is just an easy task. The system doesn’t require too much wiring and that makes only the cameras visible or invisible according to your preference. If you want to drive any burglar away or send the message to the robbers to forget any attempt to rob your place then you can set up a visible camera. But if you want to catch them in the act then you can place CCTV cameras and other CCTV equipment in places that nobody can see.

General Features of a CCTV Camera

Any security system would not be complete without CCTV cameras. The CCTV cameras and other CCTV equipment are very important in a security system.

•    This system alarms the authority of the irregularities in an area. You can set a motion detector to make the CCTV cameras respond to any movements inside your house. With the movements detected, the CCTV system can alarm you through an SMS on your phone or through an email.

•    Records the actions prior and during any irregular events. The video footages that were recorded by the CCTV systems can be used as evidence in court to convict a thief.

•    Even if you leave your home you can make sure that your property is safe with the use of the CCTV camera system. You can see what’s happening inside and outside your house even if you are on a vacation. You can access and view the videos captured by the CCTV cameras through your cell phone or laptop while you are on the go. Thanks to the GPS technology.

The use of a CCTV security system at home is indeed very useful but this system is sometimes in controversy because it puts the privacy of homes in jeopardy. Setting up CCTV cameras inside the house can be considered as an intrusion to the privacy of the people living in the house. But if the purpose is for safety and their approval was obtained prior to setting the system then there would be no issue. Also, all members should be made aware as to the locations of these CCTV cameras in the house so they can use the places where there’s no CCTV equipment installed if privacy is needed.

Why would you use Vesda Air Sampling Systems in Cold Storage Environments?

Posted by on June 18, 2009

Refrigerated warehouses and cold storage facilities are temperature controlled environments that contain a wide range of inventory such as fresh and frozen foods, pharmaceuticals and pre-packaged product lines.

The ultra dry environment, and highly combustible nature of the insulation and packaging materials present a significant fire risk in these facilities. Air sampling systems are usually more efficient in respect of the premature warning of smoke detection so in turn protecting the value of your stock. Cold storage environments exhibit harsh climatic conditions. The operating Temperature of a cold storage environment is between 8°C to -40°C (46°F to -40°F) This creates very dry atmospheres it is so essential to protect these areas in the correct way!

What should be taken into consideration in a cold storage situation?:-

1. Ignition hazards from electrical and mechanical faults from conveyor/transport equipment
2. Lighting or hot spots caused by maintenance operations
3. The fuel hazards from the highly combustible nature of polystyrene and polyurethane foams, wooden pallets and plastic wrapping. The low humidity levels of cold stores further exacerbate the heat release rate of burning materials

Other Environmental risks that need to be considered:-

1. When products are stored in High bays the airflow can effect the response time of the detection of fire.
2. It is a ongoing problem with regard to the detection of fire in a cold storage situation because the average detection system was not designed with refrigerated environments in mind.
3. High airflow’s created by blast chiller units and condensation (ice formation within the facility) can impede the operation of conventional “passive” detectors. There are international fire standards that should be acknowledged regarding the installation of smoke detectors they should not be installed if the operating temperature is below 0°C (NFPA 721).

Why would you use a Vesda system to proctect your business rather than a Water based system?

1. Water suppression i.e. sprinklers or other water based systems could be used in warehouse applications, however, they may be ineffective in cold storage environments. The objective being in the occurrence of a fire creation of water can generate environmental negative situations for example black ice.
2. The release of water can also generate large amounts of dense fog, causing reduced visibility which may impede an appropriate fire brigade response.
3. Contaminates within the sprinkler pipe work must be considered

Some of the real advantages of using VESDA detection

1. In order to prevent loss in a refrigerated warehouse to detect the fire in its premature stage is essential. VESDA’s reliable, very early warning minimizes the likelihood of product loss (either from fire and/or contamination), facility damage and operational downtime.
2. It is possible for the Vesda detector system to detect the smoke to a minimum temperature of 20° C(-18° F) and 0° C(-32° F) but important to take into account that it is suggested when the air sample enters the detector it should be a temperature of 0° C(-32° F)
3. The use of measured tests can be easily overcome by testing the system in a real smoke environment. No towers, no access equipment should be required, as all electronics (VESDA) detectors should be installed in accessible area’s!
4. With modern technology and the use of an event log we are able to calculate the trends of smoke in temporary situations.
5. All pipe work designs can be verified using the VESDA Sampling Pipe Modeling Program - ASPIRETM, before sample holes are drilled This program illustrates the significance of various parameters in an aspirating smoke detection, so that the most appropriate design can be applied!

Shopping For Business Insurance Coverage

Posted by on June 16, 2009

As far as your general business insurance coverage, make sure you review your insurance policy. Do not obligate your business to a contract unless you have read the particulars. Have you ever called your broker simply to hear a bunch of dead air? If you experience these problems, then make sure and notify the agent’s supervisor.

No one enjoys being blown off by someone who is preoccupied doing additional tasks while they are supposed to be paying attention to you, especially when you’re paying that person for his services. One needs to certainly determine who to speak to in the event you might need to file a claim. You might consider appointing a principal member of your staff who is the one to call your insurance agent.

Invariably, you should award a bonus to your workers might they be able to keep the amount of claims filed to a minimum. Your policy must provide for disability, life insurance, health insurance, liability, property insurance and possibly you need business automobile insurance. Ensure that every bit of communication with your insurer will be of the written kind, as you may need to provide proof of something in the future.

It is always a good idea to have proof of your communication with your insurance agent. This way, many possible legal errors can be avoided. Following are a few tips to assist in dealing with your insurance agency: Read the fine print of all small business insurance! Don’t allow the agent simply interpret it for you. Study it for yourself. If you have any questions and/or concerns, ask the agent to address them for you!

Don’t agree to anything which can’t be put to paper in the policy. Business insurance agencies require the employees to record most everything, up to and including phone calls and/or meetings in person.

Do not insinuate you’re going to cancel your policy. Should you find you are not receiving what you pay for, you should simply cancel the policy.

Be sure and establish a rapport between you and your broker. A good relationship can come in handy if the time presents itself to call upon his or her services. You will want to have your broker on your side so he will fight in case the need ever arises.

Four Treasure Hunting Secrets

Posted by on January 27, 2009

Treasure hunting means different things to different treasure hunters. But the bottom line of all the various types is the search for something of value that is hidden from the general public. Here are four of the more unusual secrets of successful treasure hunting.

Snow Dump Treasures

Many shopping malls in the north have an area where they dump all of the snow that is removed from the parking lot. When the snow is removed, so is all the things dropped in it, ranging from coins to rings and sometimes currency. This is then all concentrated into a small area once the snow dump melts in the spring.

Treasure hunters have known about this for a while. I first discovered the idea when I walked past a melting snow pile in a Walmart parking lot and saw a necklace and five coins on the pavement at the edge of the snow. City snow dumps are another possible place to look into.

Estate Auctions

Some of the people at an estate auction may not be bidding for the items you see, but for what is inside them. It was common in the past for people to stash currency in their books (it is still done by some today). When the person dies, most likely nobody is aware that there is money in those books. A relative of mine found thousands of dollars in the books of a departed family member.

If a treasure hunter gets to peruse the auction items beforehand, he can check a few books, and possibly other items that might contain hidden money or valuables. If he discovers a few bills or valuables, he can then bid on the lots that contain these items, like the book collection - which is often sold as a whole. Who knows how many more bills will be discovered once he goes through all the books he bought.

Storage Unit Auctions

When the fee isn’t paid, the contents of storage units are auctioned. Sometimes individual items are auctioned, but it is more common to auction off the entire contents of a unit at once, or split it into several “lots” and auction each group of items. You are generally allowed to check out the items before the auction.

One man I met did just that and found that an old milk can in one lot was full of change. He bought the lot that included the milk can for $10, and found a few salable items, as well as $75 in change! He told me that he regularly found “treasure” in this way.

Treasure Hunting In Hotel Rooms

If you stay in a lot of hotel rooms, it may interest you to know that treasure hunters, as well as hotel owners and room cleaners, report that money is sometimes stashed in the bibles in the rooms. The money is presumably then forgotten by the customer. Check out those bibles and any other books that are in the hotel rooms you stay in.

Hotel owners also report finding men’s wedding rings hidden in the rooms, particularly in hotels that cater to business travelers. Perhaps the men who are taking off and hiding their rings before going out for the evening deserve to lose them. In any case, this is another interesting way to go treasure hunting. Just look in anyplace a ring might be hidden.
